The 50th Birthday gig

We had a bit of a ropey time with the sound. Here are the videos…

Hot harmonies

Filed under: Uncategorized — Simon @ 11:47 am

Back to No Machine on a hot and sticky evening, we assembled nearly in our entirety to practise the songs again with both of our singers. It’s sounding good, but we need to work on the harmonies. We also need to work on the setlist for our next gig: our drummer’s birthday party.

Living Forever

Filed under: Uncategorized — Simon @ 11:12 pm

After some extreme diary problems, four of us managed to get together in the original shed. It felt good after two weeks off.

We practised some harmonies on We’ve Got Time, Set Free and Rain It Down, ran through Going Away a few times, and got stuck into a new cover, Live Forever by Oasis.

The Bridge House gig

Well, not a bad gig: we made a few mistakes but I think that we all enjoyed it.

Harmony Central

Filed under: Uncategorized — Simon @ 11:30 pm

Our singer, Carol has returned from holiday and we spent the evening running through the set four times getting the harmonies right, and working out who sings which part.

It’s fun but tiring. I must have played Jane by Jefferson Airplane/Starship more than 100 times.

We’ll be recording Friday’s gig, so hopefully something will be available from this blog.

Oh Roger, where art thou?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Simon @ 11:32 pm

Another session at No Machine. Our keyboard player had an urgent piece of work for tomorrow, so we kind of sang his solos for him in his absence: not nearly as good as the real thing.

We’re thinking of covering The Headmaster Ritual by The Smiths, in a similar style to how Radiohead covered it in their Podcast. It’s a strange thing: we’re very comfortable playing our own music but we’re not really sure how we should sound when covering a song. We’re not really good enough musicians to cover accurately, but we don’t seem to be able to “shedify” other peoples’ music yet.

One more practise before our gig on 23rd May.

Wed 7th May

What a scorching hot day, and pretty hot at the rehearsal studios too.

We’re without Carol this evening (she’s on holiday) so we’ve been practising the 23rd May set with Neil standing in for her.  Still working hard to try and nail “Jane”. That calypso break is hard to get just right.

We practised a couple of new ones, “Going Away” is coming along nicely but “How Many Times” is going to need a rewrite.

Only two more practises before the 23rd.

The first post

Here we are on our very own blog site, and the current status is that we are practising for a gig at the Bridge House pub in Bracknell on May 23rd, and recording six tracks. I’m currently working on getting Steve’s (guitarist) parts integrated with the existing bass and drum tracks.
